Solid IMC conditions take a lot out of you especially if it's hard for you to trust the instruments. Over the years our NEXRAD display has gotten a lot better but we still only "paint" precipitation. The Icing really seems to be the biggest issue. Certainly a damn nice Bonanza though BAM!

My first aerobatics ride. Judging from the hair it was the late 80's.

    Way cool Ray. What field?

+1 on the nice ride Bam but those conditions suck. That's always the thing about taking your own bird on vacation IMO, feeling the pressure to stay on a travel schedule and fly on those days.

IFR, SCHMI FR. That's what auto pilot and CAT III auto land is for!

Nice Bonanza BAM....love the oldV-tails, got just a few hours in one of those, 900 or so in a B-55 Baron (also a Dr. Killer), a few in a Cheyenne II, and several in a Phenom.

Oh, and I have seen both the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds. Have not been up with either of them, at least not in the real world. Lol

Here are a few pix from Denton FOB.

My brother and Dan Wahl made it from Grain Valley FOB, To Denton in about two hours 15 minutes.
Had great time at Dallas Supercross, and were back home in Grain Valley by 2am.

Funny you should mention Denton. My sister used to live there and I have flown into that airport more than I care to remember! Just outside of Dallas airspace and a traffic pattern filled with students who didn't remember how to use the radio!
On the plus side there was a way cool P-51 or two based there back in the day.

Our house is about five miles away from Denton FOB and Hidden Valley residential airpark community
It can be pretty entertaining on school nights.

I've also learned that big power boating is not less expensive.
Yep, my F-4 pilot buddy called em forked tail doctor killers, doctor's think they can do anything and a lot died trying to prove it.

In my not particularly humble opinion, there is NOTHING more badass than the Blackbird. Basically a design from the late 50's (first flew in '64), and to date there has never been one shot down as it would OUTRUN MISSILES. Somebody just launch on you? Just throttle up and wave bye bye. In 1990 it set these records:

1.Los Angeles, CA, to Washington, D.C., distance 2,299.7 miles (3,701.0 km), average speed 2,144.8 miles per hour (3,451.7 km/h), and an elapsed time of 64 minutes 20 seconds.[84]
2.West Coast to East Coast, distance 2,404 miles (3,869 km), average speed 2,124.5 miles per hour (3,419.1 km/h), and an elapsed time of 67 minutes 54 seconds.
3.Kansas City, Missouri, to Washington, D.C., distance 942 miles (1,516 km), average speed 2,176 miles per hour (3,502 km/h), and an elapsed time of 25 minutes 59 seconds.
4.St. Louis, Missouri, to Cincinnati, Ohio, distance 311.4 miles (501.1 km), average speed 2,189.9 miles per hour (3,524.3 km/h), and an elapsed time of 8 minutes 32 seconds.

The only operational one that I've seen up close (and no, I didn't get to fly in it) was at the Dryden research center at Edwards AFB. Damn thing had about a hundred interlocking stainless trays (like a jigsaw puzzle) under it to catch the fuel leaking out. I commented that "I better not smoke"; dude told me it wouldn't light even if I tried....and proceeded to prove that by dragging one of the trays outside the hangar and putting a propane torch to it.

I've gotta stop by WP in Dayton one day and check that black bad boy out in person...
I live out in the stick about 150 miles south east of Dayton, in the direct center of a favorite flight path for WP base local training runs. Had two groups of low pass window shakers blast my house yesterday.

While I'd love to take ride in Newbomb's sporty little Mach 1 city re-modeler, that old Blackbird is still the king of speed. That bitch was designed to haul ass at high altitude while screaming " Smile Boys, Catch Me If You Can" NOT!!!
