Yea. It's an older push button Garmin. Not sure of the model. It's what I use as a Speedo, my stock Speedo won't read past 30. I want to fix that too.

Does it show tracks so that you can see how many miles you've went?

It leaves a black and white dotted line. But I don't believe it shows distances, like a trip odometer in a car.

It is under the Information screen, then in Trip screen. It will keep track of all info you want. It is kind of tricky resetting it, (like 5 menu screen later) but there is a reset, then it will track you with current info. Just make sure you turn the Garmin off when on the trailer..........

I think your boat has an 80 gal tank if so you can use this as a guide
You probably get around 2.5 mpg
    80 x 2.5 = 200 mile - 20% (safety) = 160 miles without worrying
Trying to setup an account online. the mobile web page is frustrating.

    Fuel level gauge

Is the 431 color screen or black and white?
I think the 4xx and 5xx are of the same group as far as options
First number is screen size, last number is screen quality middle number has to do with preloaded software
Does it have a slot for SD card?

SD slot is behind the cover in the lower right. Now comes the tricky thing (Kendell and I went round and round on getting mine to work) Here are the cliff notes.
First you have to have or buy 2 gb or smaller SD card.
Once you have that you have to download the update from Garmin and loaded it to the SD card.
Then insert updated SD card in Garmin.

Once your 431 is updated will allow it to read up to a 8 gb card plus all the other software updates. Then you get to buy a new map card

Sounds like a complex procedure. Maybe i should just buy a newer one. Kefur said I should feel bad if i dont spend at least $100 on my boat.

Na it isn't that bad. The hard part was figuring out why the fuck mine wouldn't update, Kendell even did some weird internet thing and took over my computer form a 1000 miles away wile drinking.
The older GPSMaps units can old read up to a 2 GB card with out a software update, Then it still only has a 8 GB max. But good enough for maps

Buy or dig threw your old memory cards for a 2GB SD card

    Or here are the steps
    Buy this
Samsung 2GB SD 2G SD Secure Digital Flash Memory Card - BULK Package
    Download this
Garmin: Legacy GPSMAP with SD Card Updates & Downloads
move that file to the SD card.

Power on garmin, once booted up insert SD card and push the ok on update.

Done. Now you are up to date and and can use new maps. Or spend $800 on a new unit. What ever you want to do.

Damn that can be almost anything
If you're running behind someone or crossing behind another bits they will go crazy because of all aerated water behind a running boat. Could be a bad connection on the back of the gauge, pull it out and clean the connections. Could just be going bad, transducer puk could be coming loose in the bilge.
And remember at damn nert anything above an idle it's to late when it goes 0
And even that seatow membership don't pay the bill at Bblades
I gar-o-tee I know this for fact, I put a lot of hours on a boat and my prop still has more hours ridin on a FedEx truck!

This. This right here. This is what go fast Captians have to be in tune with. It's way more fun to drive than ride. Riding that kinda water, if you're not experienced and a fan isn't fun. We have to ALWAYS REMEMBER to operate the boat to the comfort level of your LEAST experienced passenger.

I just bolted a new handle on and told Denise to hang on.

No. That didn't work. It was worth a shot though.
