Never understood the appeal to outboards and shallow draft boats until I realized how much the Baja hides under the water.

It hasn't been above 0 for 4 days up here, Very unseasonable cold for even us, The garage and shed heaters got a work out this passed new years weekend

We're in a three day stretch below freezing. Very rare indeed. I've got a little electric space heater in the garage. After I back the ElCo in and run heater for about an hour my garage is around 60*. Over night with no heat it dropped to 42* but it was 14* outside. Forecast high today is 32*. "Normal" daytime high is 56*

It was in the single digits around KC and one of SB's kiddos had a furnace fail over the weekend, unable to locate the part on a holiday. I hope they're getting that running as we speak. Too cold for no heat.

How warm were you able to keep the shed and garage? What was the lowest temp you saw up there?

I know it sounds plum stoopid....but we've got a fishing hole in the far north end of Lake Ray Hubbard we call "the river." It actually IS the east fork of the Trinity River coming from the dam at Lake Lavon. The river is between 8-12' deep BUT you have to cross over about a mile of real skinny water in the lake to get to "the cut." The Bass Cat is a big boat but it's draft is shallow and the 250 is on a hydraulic "Jack plate" that you can raise high enough to surface the prop. We've run across that stretch many times at 50mph and the sonar flashing between 12"-16". Entry into the river requires two hard 90* turns on plane to make the "deep water" where you can set the boat back down.

Talk about "fun" or ass puckering excitement, which ever you wanna call it. That's a shallow water experience not for beginners. And it's all accomplished......yep with a 3 blade wheel.

We've never damaged a prop but there is ONE STUMP, and it's a good un. It's about 100 yards out in the lake straight out from the cut. It's marked on the GPS and is the way point for the hard turn to starboard to run to the cut. Then it's a hard over to port as you cross into the cut. THEN, AND ONLY THEN is it safe to set the boat down. You also have to have the boat on plane and the motor jacked to leave the river cut. If you come off plane at any point of the last mile before the cut you can't get the boat back on plane. Have to idle for an hour or even worse use the trolling motor to get back to water deep enough to get on plane again.

Boat shed stayed at 55 no problem. I have no idea how often it cycled in a hour/day. I'm sure more then normal. It never fell below set point every time I checked on it. The Honeywell thermostat I have in there doesn't let the temp more more then 1 degree before turning on/off. In fact I had to program a extra 5 min of fan run time after the heating cycle to move the air around more. Turns on at 55.1 degrees turn off at 55.9 . It is way over kill of what I need but I have had great luck with them at work.

The garage, Amanda had it up to 79, New years night. She was cold . I had to turn it back down to 73-74 after 30 mins. Way to hot for me. We had neighbors over drinkin and playing P & A. I forget get how fun drinking games were form college. ( woke up with a small hang over, and was needing food or bloody mary.)

How cold did it get Rob? I checked on you a couple of times and temp was -16* during day light hours. I saw -36* up north of you.

Until the administrator announced the site would be shut down, but in the meantime he would open all the sub forums, I was not aware of this thread. This is where the action is. Now I will actually miss the site when it closes. Now if I only owned a Baja.
